Departure Deck Art Installation for the Bainbridge Island Japanese American Exclusion Memorial (BIJAEM)

A site-specific, permanent art installation design (excluding the black shou sugi ban gate designed by John Buday) for BIJAEMA to commemorate the forcible removal of the hundreds of Japanese Americans on Bainbridge Island during World War II. The concept was developed while remaining attentive and flexible to the wants and needs of the organization. The installation includes a series of metal sculptures and cutouts, as well as design for a sound box at the entry to create both a visual and an audible experience for visitors.
